Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’ is stimulated through the tale of real lifestyles acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, who has end up a symbol of power and notion for many girls. The movie is a fictionalized account with Deepika Padukone playing the central person Malti, who is attacked in broad daytime on the streets of Delhi through a friend of the own family, Bashir Khan aka Babbu and his aide.

As the narrative chooses a non-linear route, we first meet Malti whilst she is on a job hunt – consciously looking to flow on from the emotional scars that the heinous crime has left her with. For the bodily scars, she has to go through a number of complicated surgeries. In fact, a long way from the goals she nursed of being a singer, her existence is now an intersection of her paintings with an NGO for acid victims, her multiple surgeries and her courtroom cases. Yet, the film steers far from melodrama or manipulation, and instead offers us a powerful protagonist whose remedy to fight is punctuated with her decided smiles, the pain in her eyes and her indomitable spirit.

As assist from her circle of relatives dwindles as a result of her brother’s infection and father’s death, it is Malti’s attorney Archana (Madhurjeet Sarghi), who stands by way of her thru her hard journey. And one where she determinedly tells Amol, “Mujhe party Karni hain.” Precisely why Malti’s individual is a winner due to the fact that no factor does she succumb to self-pity. And as Deepika embraces her character completely, her transformation is enhanced via effective prosthetics. Devoid of even a hint of glamour, all we see is Malti throughout.

Both Vikrant Massey and Madhurjeet Sarghi pitch in very commendable performances. The story sends out a strong message and is surely a brave attempt, but the edit seems uneven in places and sure parts of the narrative seem a tad stretched inside the 2d half. The song tracks stand out – with ‘Chhapaak’ title song and ‘Nok Jhok’ (soundtrack with the aid of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, lyrics by way of Gulzar) including to the poignancy of the mood.

‘Chhapaak’ isn't always a film that lets you go easy, just as one starts to settle in to think Malti has controlled to get higher of her perpetrator, it jolts you with a few grim, uncomfortable reminders.

The film was announced on 24 December 2018 by Padukone on her Twitter account; it marks her first production venture. Filming took place from March to June 2019 in New Delhi and Mumbai. The film will be released in India on 10 January 2020.

On 10 December 2019, the official trailer was launched by Fox Star Studios. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 10 January 2020 in India.
